Pete Rozé bio

I was five years old when I first became aware of music. It was from watching a 1947 claymation film called "Tubby The Tuba".  I think what caught my attention was the power of the low end and the amazing melody that Tubby presented.  My eyes got wider and my ears perked up like a dog hearing a dog whistle!  The story line also captured my imagination.

Graduate of Leonard Davis Center at CCNY in Harlem NYC

In more recent times I've worked in the orchestra pit for the national touring Broadway musicals of The Color Purple, Big River, Avenue Q, & Ring of Fire.

I grew up in Greenwich Village NYC and in my early 30s I got a chance to play jazz

with some of the great veterans of the famous big bands and small combos like:

Eddie Barefield of Cab Calloway, Benny Moten, Count Basie

Doc Cheatham of Ma Rainey, Chick Webb, Cab Calloway, Benny Goodman

Jess Stacy of Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa

John Lewis of The Modern Jazz Quartet.

Laurel Watson of Louis Jordan, Don Redman, The Harlem Jazz & Blues Band

In New Orleans I have played in many of the popular night spots like The Jazz Playhouse in the Royal Sonesta Hotel, Maison-Bourbon, The Bourbon-O Bar, Hotel Monteleone, Fritzel's European Jazz Bar, the various bars and pubs on Frenchmen Street, Houston's Bar & Grill, various Mardi Gras Parties, JazzFest, French Quarter Fest, and other private engagements.
